If you’ve ever been to Virtue, you know we try to be as eco-friendly as possible. We take on this approach by reusing and recycling anything that we can.
Our environmental awareness takes another shape when it comes to the things we pass out to guests every single day. I’ll let you in on a secret—I’m talking about our business cards! Check your wallet; if you have one tucked away, take a look and you’ll see they are some very unique items.
It all starts with our amazing guests. Stored in the back of our salon, we have cardboard and lots of it! Our guests save up loads of cardboard laying around in their homes, from cereal boxes to tissue boxes and anything else in between. Our guests donate all this for us to take advantage of and make new business cards out of it in our spare time.
Along with using cardboard, we also use rubber stamps personalized for each stylist and hand-stamp every one of our cards. We further use stamps for our retail bags, postcards and appointment reminder cards. These stamps last so they can be reused over and over again without having to be replaced.
You might be wondering how we make the cards. Here is a step by step process; I promise, It’s fun!
1. Cut down all the cardboard into pieces we can actually use, removing edges and pieces without a smooth surface. (We still recycle all of our scraps!)
2. Measure the individual piece to see the maximum amount of cards we’re able to make.
3. Line it up and cut. All of our cards are cut to 2 inches by 3.5 inches
4. Stamp the card using the appropriate stamp, and you’re all done!
This is such an easy way for us to reuse something we would normally throw aside. We take cardboard and turn it into something we now use everyday!
What’s something you could creatively use at home through recycled products? We’d love to hear about your project!
