It's probably not a surprise that all the girls at Virtue love animals, and we are sure you do too. We all want what is best for our pets, but it just isn't possible for most of us to cook all of their food. After doing some research on what is in the average supermarket dog food (brain, lungs, spleen, blood...and whatever else is not fit for human consumption), I wanted to do all I could to control what my pups eat.
After doing even more research, I found many recipes for vegan dog treats, most of which contain ingredients that we already have. I know it isn't possible to control everything that goes in our pet's mouth, but taking 30 minutes to prepare these simple treats, (that contain ingredients that we all love to eat) will help put our minds at ease.
Vegan Dog Treats
5 Cups flour
3 Cups rolled oats
2 1/4 Cups water
5 Large carrots, shredded
2/3 Cups peanut butter
1/2 Cup applesauce
Combine flour and oats. Add in water carrots, peanut butter, and applesauce. Knead dough until people-cookie dough consistency. Roll out dough to desired thickness on floured surface and cut with cutter of your choice. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!
Even Easier Two-Ingredient Vegan Dog Treats
2 Cups flour
2 (4 oz) jars pureed baby food (blueberry, sweet potato...)
Combine two ingredients, form treats to any shape of your liking, and stick in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!
Here are some of the happy pets of Virtue...can you guess which pet belongs to which Virtue teammate?
