The holidays are quickly approaching, bringing family members, friends and coworkers together to celebrate! This also means that you will probably have at least a party or two to attend. It can be challenging to decide what to do with your hair and makeup while making it festive for your occasion, especially if you have to head somewhere straight from work. Here is an easy, quick way to start off your day with a simple look and how to transform it into a night look!
Begin your day by styling your hair. In my opinion, if you normally wear your hair straight, try curling it instead or vise versa just to add something different. However you choose to style your hair, whether it's curly, straight or natural, you’ll want to leave it all down. You are going to add something to it later when you’re preparing for your night look, so make sure you have bobby pins handy! This look will work whether your hair is short, a medium length or long.
Start your makeup by applying the basics:
- Fill in your brows
Any of these that you usually do not wear, feel free to skip. You don’t want to feel like a different person. This look should just enhance how you normally do things on a day-to-day basis.
Next, you’ll want to start on your eyes. (since you already applied your foundation, a primer is optional)
1. Apply a gold shade all over the lid
2. In the crease, use a windshield wiper motion back and forth to apply a light brown shadow.
3. Apply a lighter, cream shade to the brow bone
4. Apply liner in the shade of your choice
5. Apply mascara
After you’ve completed the eyes, you can move onto your lips. Choose a subtle shade for now; you will change this later in the day. Apply lip-gloss, lipstick or even just some lip balm if you don’t want to add any color.
At this point, go about your normal routine, whether that means going to work or just running errands throughout your day. You are now prepared to make small changes to your hair and makeup later in the day to get ready for your special occasion. This is also where you can get creative and choose which way you prefer to wear your hair and makeup.
Since you’ve already done all the hard work with your hair, all you need to do is touch up any pieces that may be out of place and begin the pinning. Below are some pictures of different options that involve braids, twists, or just pulling it back smooth. I recommend teasing the crown a bit to give you some height. I tucked the bobby pins underneath a piece in the back so they are all hidden.
Since you started with gold on the lid, a light brown in the crease, and the cream shade on the brow bone, all you need to do is darken it slightly. Take a shade of brown, darker than the original color you used before and apply this to the outer corners of the eyes. If you want, you can also add false lashes, winged eyeliner, or both for a more dramatic look!
The final step is to darken the lip color. I feel like this is the easiest way to make everything look festive! Below are a few examples of lip colors you could pair with the look.
That’s it! Now put on your outfit, accessorize and you’re ready to go! This is an easy way to transform your simple day look into a fun, holiday inspired night look!
